Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has sought to clarify his relationship with blogger Maverick Aoko following public speculation that he directed her to post negative content about the Odinga family.
The MP emphasized that Aoko acts independently and that he has no influence over her online activity.
Speaking on X, Owino described Aoko as “a friend and fierce supporter” while asserting that her posts do not reflect instructions from him.
“I do not know her sources and have never told her to attack the Odinga Family,” Owino stated, highlighting the blogger’s autonomy in expressing her views.
Owino also reaffirmed his personal ties with members of the Odinga family, stressing the long-standing respect he holds for Mama Ida Odinga.
He said that Winnie, Junior, and Rosemary Odinga are all his friends and that he has a close, familial relationship with their mother.
“Mama Ida loves me like her own son, welcomes me home, and gives me food whenever I visit her. I can never insult such a mum,” Owino added.
This clarification comes in the context of heightened sensitivity around social media commentary targeting political figures in Kenya.
Bloggers and online influencers have increasingly been seen as key players in shaping public discourse, sometimes drawing unwarranted associations between their posts and the political figures they support.
Owino’s statement appears aimed at addressing misunderstandings and reaffirming his respectful ties with the Odinga family.
