MP Gathoni Defends Kalonzo: Serving the People Comes Before Personal Roads

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has defended former Vice President and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka against criticism over the dusty road leading to his Tseikuru home.

Speaking on X, Wamuchomba argued that Kalonzo exemplified leadership by prioritizing public service over personal convenience.

“I live in an estate full of dust for over eight years since I was elected. I was the Vice Chair of the Roads Committee in Parliament. I allocated funds for Mau Mau roads in Kiambu and even in my neighborhood estate, but the link road to my house remains murram to-date,” she said.

Wamuchomba drew parallels between her own delayed road projects and the situation at Kalonzo’s residence.

She noted that the former Vice President’s road remains unfinished, not due to neglect, but because he may have prioritized the broader community during his time in office.

“The road to Kalonzo’s Tseikuru home is dusty; he may have chosen to serve others first when he was in office, and that is leadership,” she added.

The remarks come in the context of ongoing scrutiny of Kenya’s political leaders, including President William Ruto, who have criticized long-serving politicians for perceived personal gains while in office.

Wamuchomba’s comments challenge this perspective, framing infrastructure delays as a reflection of service-oriented leadership rather than personal oversight.

Wamuchomba also emphasized that her own road projects in Kiambu have progressed, yet some areas, including her residence, remain unfinished.

“I have tarmacked many roads, but mine will be the last,” she said, highlighting the practical realities of prioritizing public needs over private convenience.

The discussion underscores a broader conversation about leadership accountability and public service in Kenya.

It illustrates how elected officials often face trade-offs between personal benefit and the needs of their constituents, with implications for public perception and political debates ahead of future elections
