The National Police Service (NPS) has confiscated 800 litres of illegal Chang’aa during a raid in the Majengo slums, Nairobi.

The operation, carried out by officers from Shaurimoyo Police Station in Buruburu Sub-County, targeted a suspected brewing den following intelligence on illicit alcohol activities.

The Chang’aa was found hidden in polythene bags, and one suspect was arrested.

The individual is currently in police custody and will face arraignment.

The NPS described the seizure as part of its ongoing efforts to disrupt illegal alcohol networks and prevent the health risks associated with unregulated brews.

Police urged the public to continue reporting illicit brewing operations, citing community tips as key to the operation’s success.

Investigations are underway to identify suppliers and other individuals involved in the trade.

The police confirmed that further raids are planned to dismantle similar operations across the city.

Authorities emphasized that the crackdown is aimed at protecting residents from the dangers of unlicensed liquor, which has been linked to poisoning cases and other criminal activities.

The seizure in Majengo is one of the largest in recent months, highlighting the persistence of illegal alcohol production in Nairobi and the police’s commitment to curbing it.
