On Tuesday, as reported by peopledaily, a top ODM politician publicly warned that he would stop supporting ODM party leader Oburu Odinga if he does not follow his commands. The announcement has stirred political debates, especially within the ODM party.
In a statement, Homa Bay Senator Eddy Oketch said that if Oburu Odinga decides to work with the DCP party or continues listening to those opposing President William Ruto, he would withdraw his support completely.
“Oburu must make a clear choice. If he goes against what I stand for, I cannot continue backing him,” Oketch added, emphasizing that his warning should be taken seriously.
Senator Oketch further explained that his demands are straightforward. He urged Oburu Odinga not to collaborate with Gachagua and avoid siding with those who oppose President Ruto.
“These are simple instructions. I expect loyalty and clarity. Anything less is unacceptable,” Oketch said.
Supporting Oketch’s stance, Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai echoed the same sentiments. He revealed that he would also stop supporting Oburu Odinga if the ODM leader fails to follow the commands.
Alai stated, “It is time for leaders to show clear direction. Oburu must choose who he stands with, or risk losing support from key party members.”
However, not everyone within the party shares this view. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has vowed to remain loyal to Oburu Odinga and continue supporting him. She defended the ODM leader against critics who are unhappy with his leadership.
“Oburu has my full support. Our party is stronger when we unite, not when we bow to threats or pressure,” Wanga said, stressing her commitment to the party’s unity.
The unfolding situation highlights growing tensions within the ODM party, as top politicians clash over alliances and loyalty.
Observers say that how Oburu Odinga responds to these warnings could shape his influence and position within the party in the coming months.
Many Kenyans are now watching closely to see whether these threats will change ODM’s internal dynamics or if unity will prevail despite the disagreements.
