Daniel Wanyeki has finally found hope for justice after spending 17 painful years behind bars at Kamiti Maximum Prison for a crime he did not commit. He was arrested in 2007 and convicted on defilement charges that have now been confirmed to be false. At the time of his arrest, his daughter was only seven years old.
Now aged 24, Wanyeki’s daughter has bravely broken her silence and revealed the truth. She has confessed that she was forced to testify against her own father.
According to her, the pressure came from people she trusted the most, including her uncle Stephen Gachanja, her grandmother, and a female police officer. They allegedly coached her to accuse her father of repeated sexual abuse.
The motivation behind the setup was a bitter family inheritance dispute. The family estate, worth over KSh 50 million, became the source of conflict after the death of Wanyeki’s father.
His uncle reportedly wanted to sell part of the land without consent. When Wanyeki objected, the plan to eliminate him from the picture was allegedly put into motion by framing him through his young daughter.
On November 27, 2007, Wanyeki was arrested and charged with two counts of incest at Thika Law Courts. While his older daughter denied the accusations, the younger one testified that abuse had occurred daily.
Despite contradictions and inconsistencies in her testimony, the court convicted Wanyeki and sentenced him to 20 years in prison. Later, the sentence was shockingly upgraded to life imprisonment on appeal.
In 2020, as an adult, Wanyeki’s daughter reached out and confessed that her testimony had been a lie forced upon her. She confirmed that her father was innocent and expressed remorse for the role she played as a child under coercion.
Her confession became a turning point in the case.
The new evidence has led to the annulment of Wanyeki’s conviction, and the case has now been reopened for a fresh trial. After nearly two decades of suffering behind bars, Daniel Wanyeki is finally on the path to freedom and justice, exposing a painful story of family betrayal, abuse of power, and a long-delayed truth.
