KeNHA Orders Removal of Billboards and Roadside Structures Ahead of JKIA Road Upgrades

Roadside advertisers and property owners along the A8/B10 Highway, stretching from James Gichuru Road Junction to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), have been given 14 days to remove all billboards, directional signs, tree nurseries, and temporary structures.

The notice, issued by Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) Acting Director General Luka Kimeli, explains that the removal is essential to pave the way for capacity enhancements, landscaping, and beautification works along the corridor. Any structures left beyond the 14-day deadline will be taken down at the owner’s expense.

“This project aims to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and boost the aesthetic appeal of the corridor connecting central Nairobi to JKIA,” Kimeli stated.

The directive follows President William Ruto’s announcement in December 2025 on the reconstruction and beautification of Mombasa Road from JKIA to ABC.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize Nairobi’s transport infrastructure, addressing congestion on the lower deck of the Expressway and creating a visually appealing cityscape.

KeNHA confirmed that work began on December 19, 2025, with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) contracted to implement the upgrades.

Once completed, the project is expected to enhance environmental sustainability, improve infrastructure, and raise safety standards around the airport and adjacent areas.
