Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang has publicly urged Winnie Odinga to remain steadfast and protect the political legacy of her late father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, amid growing tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
During a tour of the coastal region, Kajwang described Winnie as an integral part of ODM, cautioning her against being misled by individuals he claimed were “cheating” her.
“In my humble way, I want to ask you, Winnie Odinga, please, you are our child, and we will protect you. You are part of us; the energy and the oracle of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga reside in you. Please wake up,” Kajwang said.
He emphasized that Raila’s political inheritance must not be undermined, pledging that leaders aligned with Oburu Oginga would support her if she remained strong and united.
This intervention follows the controversial ouster of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as ODM Secretary General, a move temporarily blocked by the political tribunal court.
Winnie Odinga had publicly backed Sifuna at a press conference, signalling her opposition to certain leadership decisions within ODM.
At a January rally at Kamukunji Grounds, Winnie criticized opportunistic moves in the party since Raila’s death, stating:
“On this journey, we were passengers, and Baba was the driver. One day, we woke up and were shocked. The driver had died…They pushed us, passengers, to the back. They forgot Baba died only yesterday. Why the rush?”
Winnie stressed that not all within ODM were genuine supporters of Raila, highlighting the internal divisions that have emerged in the party’s leadership since his passing.
Meanwhile, ODM appointed Catherine Omanyo as acting Secretary General and removed Amisi from the deputy organizing secretary role, further deepening the ongoing party power struggle.
This appeal by TJ Kajwang underscores a critical moment in ODM’s post-Raila era, as party leaders and family members seek to preserve unity and protect the founder’s political legacy.
