IG Douglas Kanja Reappears at Police College After Missing Opposition Meeting

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has resurfaced publicly just hours after his absence from a scheduled meeting with opposition leaders sparked criticism.

A delegation led by Kalonzo Musyoka had reportedly gathered at Police Headquarters seeking a formal report on the violent incident at ACK Giitima Church.

However, the police chief did not attend the meeting, a move the opposition described as avoidance of accountability.

Instead, IG Kanja was seen at the National Police College Embakasi B Campus, where he was inspecting recruit training.

Social media posts from the Kenya Police Service showed him in combat gear, touring the campus alongside his deputies and interacting with officers overseeing the program.

The contrasting scenes—opposition leaders awaiting answers at headquarters while the IG conducted a training inspection—have fueled political debate.

Critics argue that prioritizing a routine training visit over responding to concerns about public safety raises questions about police responsiveness and oversight.

The tension stems from an earlier formal request by opposition figures demanding a comprehensive report on the ACK Giitima incident, citing the Inspector General’s constitutional duty to keep the public informed on security matters.

As the situation unfolds, attention remains fixed on when the long-awaited report will be released and whether dialogue between law enforcement leadership and political leaders can be restored.
