The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is not on the brink of collapse — at least not according to Acting ODM Secretary General and Busia County Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo.
In a fiery address that has since sent shockwaves across the political landscape, Omanyo boldly declared that the party will continue to thrive with or without Edwin Sifuna.
Speaking during ODM’s coastal tour in Lamu County on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Omanyo — currently serving as the party’s acting Secretary General — dismissed claims that Sifuna’s removal would dent the party’s legacy. Instead, she accused the former Secretary General of betrayal and political deception.
“Alikua anajifanya ni rafiki wa baba lakini, mnasema kikulacho ki nguoni mwako,” Omanyo charged, suggesting that Sifuna only pretended to be close to party leader Raila Odinga.
She went further, alleging that Sifuna is now attempting to lure a section of ODM members away from the party.
“Alijifanya karibu sana mwandani wa baba Raila Odinga lakini yeye ndio amekazana kuchukua fraction flani kuwapeleka mahali ambapo ata Baba mahali yuko amekasirika,” she added.
Her remarks signal deepening tensions within the party, with internal wrangles now spilling into the public arena. However, Omanyo maintained that ODM remains solid and unshaken despite the leadership shake-up.
Calling on members to remain loyal and steadfast, she dismissed narratives that the party was dead or weakened.
“Kwa hivyo msimame imara bila kuambiwa kimeenda, kimekufa, kimetawanyika bila fulani hakuna mahali kitaenda,” she urged supporters.
As the political drama unfolds, all eyes are now on ODM’s next move — and whether Sifuna’s alleged faction will gain traction or fade into the background. One thing is clear: the battle lines have been drawn.
