Kalonzo Musyoka’s Motorcade Attacked During Meru Rally, Raising Political Safety Concerns

Kalonzo Musyoka has spoken out after his motorcade was attacked during opposition political activities in Meru County, an incident that has reignited concerns about the safety of political leaders at public gatherings.

The opposition leader shared the events on social media, referencing Isaiah 54:17: “No weapon forged against you will prevail… This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD.”

Photos posted by Kalonzo showed damage sustained by several vehicles in the convoy, including one carrying the rally’s sound system.

The attack occurred during a visit with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as part of the United Opposition’s activities.

The leaders were initially denied entry to a planned church service attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. They later joined a service in the Buuri area, followed by a political rally.

Reports indicate the motorcade was attacked when unidentified individuals allegedly threw stones, damaging vehicles and briefly disrupting the gathering.

Opposition members condemned the assault, calling for authorities to ensure the safety of political leaders and supporters during public events.

Observers say the Meru incident underscores the heightened political tensions and the need for stronger security arrangements and restraint during rallies, emphasizing that political competition should never lead to violence or intimidation.
