The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that the Nairobi Metropolitan Area will continue to experience moderate rainfall over the next 24 hours, with heavier downpours expected in specific areas.
According to a forecast released on Monday, March 2, Westlands and its surrounding areas are likely to receive heavy rainfall, while most other parts of Nairobi will experience moderate showers with isolated heavier pockets. The Department noted that rainfall is expected both during the day and at night.
Kenya Met Director Dr. David Gikungu cautioned residents about potential waterlogging in low-lying and poorly drained areas within the Nairobi Metropolis.
The agency also encouraged members of the public to share photos and videos of adverse weather conditions to assist in real-time monitoring.
Counties neighboring Nairobi are also expected to be affected. Kiambu, Kabete, Kiambaa, Githunguri, and Gatundu are forecast to receive very heavy rainfall, while Kajiado and Machakos counties will experience moderate rainfall.
The continued rainy season has already caused traffic disruptions, flooding, and tragic incidents in parts of the country.
Authorities are urging Kenyans to exercise caution, particularly in flood-prone areas, as heavy rains persist.
