Maison Leshomo Reappears as Fred Matiang’i Tours Samburu

Former Samburu County Woman Representative Maison Leshomo made a rare public appearance on Monday when she welcomed Dr Fred Matiang’i to the county.

Dr Matiang’i, who is the deputy party leader of the Jubilee Party, is currently touring different parts of the country to popularize his State House bid ahead of the next General Election, which is about 17 months away. He was accompanied by fellow deputy party leader and former Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni.

Leshomo is a seasoned politician in Samburu County. She served as the first-ever Woman Representative for two terms, from 2013 to 2022. During her time in office, she was a key member of the former ruling Jubilee Party.

However, in the 2022 General Election, she lost her seat to Pauline Lenguris of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Since her defeat, Leshomo has maintained a low public profile, making very few political appearances. Her presence at Dr Matiang’i’s tour has now sparked speculation about her political future.

Many observers see her move as a possible sign that she may be preparing to return to active politics ahead of the 2027 elections.

Her reappearance alongside top Jubilee leaders signals renewed political activity in Samburu as campaigns slowly start to take shape across the country.
