Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has confirmed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will field candidates in all elective positions during the 2027 general elections, with the exception of the Presidency, which remains under negotiation.
Speaking on Friday during Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations and prayers, Joho assured the public that ODM is fully prepared to contest nationwide, reinforcing the party’s role as a key player in Kenya’s political landscape.
“I want to assure Kenyans that ODM will field candidates in all positions. The only one still under discussion is the Presidency. But in all other races, ODM will have candidates,” Joho stated.
He emphasized that the party will actively campaign for its candidates, highlighting his own long-standing experience within ODM. “We shall vigorously support our candidates, including myself. Though I may not hold a current position, I am a founding member, former National Organizing Secretary, and served as Raila Odinga’s deputy for ten years,” he said.
Joho also sought to quell concerns over internal party divisions, affirming ODM’s unity and strength. “This party belongs to the people. We will defend it and support it with all our efforts,” he added.
His remarks come amid growing political activity and speculation over alliances within the broad-based government, as various factions position themselves for the upcoming elections.
Joho has largely aligned with the Linda Ground movement, while a rival faction led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino pushes the Linda Mwananchi agenda, highlighting emerging tensions within ODM.
Later, Joho joined Muslim faithful for Eid prayers at Ummu Kulthum Mosque in Mombasa, accompanied by Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Aharub Khatri, family members, and other leaders.
Reflecting on the occasion, he described Eid-ul-Fitr as a time for unity, compassion, and renewal, praying that the lessons of Ramadan inspire lasting virtues and peace.
