Oburu Odinga, a senior leader in ODM, has said that the party is only interested in working with William Ruto’s UDA party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking in Kisumu County on Friday, April 17, Oburu said ODM does not want to compete for seats with UDA if they form a partnership. He explained that the party supports zoning, where partners agree on who runs where.
However, he made it clear that ODM will not give up seats it already controls. He said areas like Luo Nyanza, Nairobi, Kakamega, Kilifi, and Busia have many ODM leaders, and the party wants to keep those positions.
Oburu also said ODM will still compete strongly with other parties, but not with those it plans to partner with.
He dismissed claims that ODM’s relationship with UDA has been affected by zoning talks, saying no official negotiations have started yet and their relationship is still good.
At the same time, Rigathi Gachagua criticized ODM leaders, claiming they had betrayed the party by working with Ruto. He urged ODM members to leave and join his new party to fight for Kenyans.
Despite the criticism, Oburu insisted that ODM is focused on possible talks with UDA and not other parties.
