NCIC Summons Peter Kaluma Over Controversial Homa Bay Political Remarks

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma to appear before the commission over political remarks he allegedly made in Homa Bay County.

Kaluma has been directed to appear at the NCIC offices in Britam Towers, Upper Hill, Nairobi, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 10am.

The commission said the summons is part of ongoing investigations into statements attributed to the lawmaker during a political engagement in Homa Bay on August 15.

NCIC said the remarks raised concerns under provisions of the National Cohesion and Integration Act. The commission included the original statements in Dholuo alongside an English translation in the summons.

The remarks reportedly touched on political loyalty, opposition to the idea of a one-term presidency and calls to deal with people supporting the position.

Kaluma has been asked to appear before the commission as a respondent and assist with the ongoing inquiry.

The summons comes shortly after violence was reported during a political rally in Homa Bay, where several people were injured and property was damaged.

The NCIC has maintained that political leaders have a responsibility to promote peaceful political participation and avoid statements that could fuel tension or intolerance.

Kaluma's appearance before the commission is expected to give him an opportunity to respond to the remarks and the concerns raised during the investigation.

The case comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election, with the commission increasingly focusing on political statements that could threaten national cohesion and peaceful participation.
