Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has joined the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) after leaving the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), marking a major shift in his political journey ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The People’s Party of Kenya is not a newly registered political outfit. Records from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties show that it received its registration certificate on May 14, 2012, with certificate serial number 022.
The party uses a microphone as its official symbol and its colours are blue, red, green and white. Its slogan is “Usawa Haki Uhuru,” which translates to “Equality, Justice, Freedom.”
Nyoro announced that he and his supporters had joined the party and would now work within the opposition as the country prepares for the 2027 elections.
Before making the move, Nyoro said he had held consultations with several political leaders across the opposition. Those he mentioned included former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, Martha Karua, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Nyoro said the consultations were aimed at determining the political direction that would best serve Kenyans ahead of the next election.
He also urged voters to consider the People’s Party of Kenya when choosing political leaders for the 2027 elections, saying the party could work together with other opposition groups.
The move represents a significant change for Nyoro, who was previously a prominent figure within President William Ruto’s political camp and served as chairperson of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee.
With political alliances already taking shape ahead of 2027, Nyoro’s decision to join PPK is likely to add another dimension to the growing competition for political support across Kenya.
