People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) leader Ndindi Nyoro has criticised the government over security in Isiolo following a deadly attack in Gotu that left five people dead.
Nyoro spoke during his visit to Isiolo on Thursday, September 17, 2026, where he met residents and local leaders. He called for urgent action to improve security and protect communities affected by banditry.
The attack occurred on Wednesday when a team pursuing suspected livestock thieves was ambushed in Gotu. Five people were killed, including two Anti-Stock Theft Unit officers, a National Police Reservist and two civilians.
Nyoro argued that protecting citizens is a key responsibility of the government. He said the continued loss of lives and livestock in the region showed that more needed to be done to address insecurity.
The PPK leader also alleged that some individuals within government could be linked to livestock theft, claiming that such activities were contributing to insecurity in the region. He did not provide evidence for the allegation.
His comments come as local leaders call for increased security operations in Gotu and neighbouring areas. Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has also called for stronger patrols and intelligence gathering following the killings.
Nyoro’s visit comes amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 General Election. His criticism of the government adds security concerns in Isiolo to the wider political debate over the government’s record.
The latest attack has renewed calls for authorities to strengthen security measures and prevent further loss of life in communities affected by banditry.
