Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has joined leaders across Western Kenya in mourning the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, who died in a road accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway.

The fatal crash occurred on one of the country’s busiest transport corridors, frequently used by motorists travelling between Nairobi and western regions.

In a message shared on X, Barasa confirmed Jirongo’s death and conveyed condolences to his family and constituents.

He described the former legislator as a bold political figure whose presence was felt both locally and nationally during his time in public life.

Barasa said Jirongo stood out for his willingness to challenge prevailing political norms and for his active participation in national debates.

In his statement, the Kimilili MP extended sympathies not only to Jirongo’s immediate family but also to residents of Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County, and the wider Western Kenya region.

“On behalf of my family and the people of Kimilili Constituency, I extend heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family, friends, Lugari constituents, Kakamega County, and Western Kenya,” Barasa wrote on X.

He added that his thoughts were with the family during what he described as a difficult moment.

Cyrus Jirongo previously served as the Member of Parliament for Lugari, a constituency in Kakamega County.

During his tenure in elective politics, he was known for taking firm positions on national issues and for his involvement in Kenya’s evolving multiparty landscape.

His role placed him among leaders who shaped political discourse in Western Kenya during his active years.
