Mudavadi Leads Farewell to Cyrus Jirongo, Highlights Legacy Beyond Politics

Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo was laid to rest on Tuesday at his Lumakanda home in Lugari, Kakamega County, with Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi among the national leaders and community members paying their final respects. 


Mudavadi described Jirongo as a leader whose influence extended beyond elective office into entrepreneurship and community service.


The burial of Cyrus Jirongo drew a large gathering of political figures, friends, and relatives, reflecting the wide-reaching impact of the late politician. 


Speaking after the ceremony, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi acknowledged Jirongo’s contributions to national discourse, noting his courage and ability to mobilize public attention during his time in politics.


“He captured the imagination of many through his conviction, boldness, and active engagement in community development,” Mudavadi said. 


He added that Jirongo’s leadership was defined not by the positions he held, but by the tangible influence he had on people’s lives.


Jirongo, who served as Lugari MP and was a prominent businessman, gained recognition in national politics for his fearless approach and outspoken style. 


His career was marked by both political engagement and entrepreneurial initiatives, making him a notable figure in Western Kenya and beyond.


Mudavadi also extended condolences to Jirongo’s family, including his widows Anne Kanini, Christine Nyokabi, and Anne Lanoi, as well as his children and other relatives. 


“May the Lord continue to comfort and strengthen the family during this difficult time,” he said.


The event highlighted Jirongo’s role in shaping local and national political debates, particularly during the 1990s and early 2000s when he was active in Parliament and various civic initiatives. 


Colleagues and mourners reflected on his ability to combine political leadership with community service, a trait that endeared him to many across different regions.
