Former Presidential Guard Unit (PGU) commanding officer, George Nderitu, made a rare public appearance on Saturday as he joined senior police officers to condole with the family of Patrick Tito, Principal Assistant to Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, in Makueni County.
Patrick Tito has held the position for over a year, succeeding Mariam Muli, who retired. The condolence visit saw several top police officials in attendance, including Gideon Munga Nyale, commandant of Police Training College Kiganjo; James Kabo, commandant of Police Airwing; and Catherine Mugwe, director of personnel at Police Headquarters.
Nderitu, who now serves as the General Staffing Officer at GSU Headquarters, previously commanded GSU’s G-Company and played a key role in the security of former President Uhuru Kenyatta while stationed at State House.
In 2022, he continued his duties under President William Ruto before being transferred to GSU headquarters in 2023. His former role at the Presidential Guard Unit was taken over by Ernest Cheruiyot, who has since left State House.
The visit highlighted the close ties and mutual respect among senior police officers, as they paid tribute to a colleague and demonstrated solidarity with his family during a difficult time.
